SA Champs

SACOPA is the South African Championships of Performing Arts, directed by Dr. Ellen Roux via Beyond 2000.

Beyond 2000 was founded by Dr. Ellen Roux with the intention to make her childhood dream of success in the performing arts come true for other talented kids and young adults.

The South African Championships of Performing Arts is the only official national competition for both novice and experienced performers, and includes the following performing arts events:

  • Acting
  • Dance
  • Vocal
  • Instrumental
  • Modelling
  • Variety Acts

The age groups are as follows:

  • Junior (age divisions: 5-7, 8-10, 11-12, 13-15)
  • Senior (age divisions: 16-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30+)

Just by qualifying and taking part in a national competition, a young talent can gain the confidence needed to start, or continue, a journey in the multi-faceted world of the performing arts.

The public, advertisers and media all know the “Olympics”-concept. Just like the sports World Championships, countries are invited to send their best performers to the one prestigious, final event to determine who is the “best in the world”. The grand prize at the SA Championships is the GOLD MEDAL, symbolizing excellence. Some performers train all their lives for that single, cherished moment in time at the Championships.

Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals are awarded to individuals and group winners; trophies are presented to overall winners in various categories of the competition every year. Winners are selected to represent South Africa at the World Championships. Agents, directors, producers and others from the “show-biz industry” are also invited to attend.

The winners of the South African Championships will have a chance to compete against other international contestants in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, where experienced and famous talent scouts and a real Hollywood experience will wait for them.

Should they then be among the winners of the World Championship, they could be awarded scholarships to continue education in the performing arts industry (more than $130,000.00 are awarded for this every year).

SACOPA’s main mission is to give young talents an opportunity to shine and see their dreams come true.
By developing and co-ordinating programs designed to enhance the well-being of the Performing Arts Industry and of its individuals in South Africa, SACOPA aims at creating an infrastructure that can offer all contestants a gateway to becoming a World Champion.
